Projects at axialHealthcare

Contribute to ongoing efforts to increase access to quality care

axialNETWORK identifies high quality medical and behavioral healthcare providers.  Mapping, descriptive, and outcome analyses will enhance the visibility and importance of these provider networks.

Measuring behavioral health conditions

What does it mean to have behavioral health conditions from a claims billing perspective? Students will mine medical and pharmacy claims data to enhance identification of patients with behavioral health conditions, and whether they are managed or unmanaged.

Profiling substance use disorder

Determine whether there is a profile for diagnosis of substance use disorder (SUD) that is more appropriate for tagging people with SUD (or with a history of SUD). The idea here is that history of SUD is an important risk factor and we want to be very deliberate when assigning risk.

Contributing to programming standards and creation of data products

axialHealthcare recently implemented Rstudio Server and Rstudio Connect platforms.  Interns will contribute to customizing in-house R packages and ggplot2 themes to standardize the output of data scientists and statisticians.

Internship Responsibilities and Job Functions

axialHealthcare interns perform tasks such as reviewing and organizing scientific literature, performing descriptive statistics using R, Python, and/or SQL, brainstorming testable hypotheses, designing and implementing scoring and predictive models, creating graphs, charts, and other visualizations for clients and leadership, creating and running quality assurance (QA) tests on code, and documenting code.
