VU campus info session about publishing your work – May 3

Posted by on Monday, April 23, 2018 in Workshops and Seminars .

A key professional skill for scientists is learning to navigate the scientific publishing process.

Dr. Gwen Taylor from Wiley Publishers will be on campus May 3 to give a demonstration of a new e-learning resource for early-career researchers to learn all about publishing their research. Following the presentation Dr. Taylor will be looking to recruit some grad/med students and postdocs to test-drive some of this online course and provide feedback on it. The “job” would entail spending 1-2 hours in the course (over a week or two) and then filling out an online survey to describe the experience. Those who participate in the trial and submit a completed survey will receive a $25 gift card for Amazon or Starbucks. The feedback surveys will help the librarians, research faculty, Deans and others determine whether to make this resource available to all researchers at Vanderbilt. To sign up to attend or for questions contact Dr. Gwen Taylor at 970-731-6399, gtaylor@wiley.com

About the Wiley Researcher Academy

The Wiley Researcher Academy (WRA; www.wileyresearcheracademy.com) is a self-paced, online training course that covers all aspects of the research publishing process, including

-best practices for scientific writing

-identifying appropriate funders and how to apply for funding

-how to select an appropriate journal

-how to deal most effectively with editors and reviewers

-how to promote your article once it’s published

…as well as providing clear descriptions of open access, predatory journals, managing research data, scientific and publishing ethics, and more.
