The Department of Epidemiology and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth seek applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in association with Dartmouth’s Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in Molecular Epidemiology. Exceptional candidates at the rank of Associate Professor may also be considered. The Department of Epidemiology provides a dynamic and interactive environment, with a commitment to teaching and research excellence. Dartmouth is an R1: Doctoral University – Highest Research Activity in the Carnegie Classification, and faculty members benefit from highly collaborative and collegial interactions across campus, inclusive of departments at Geisel School of Medicine, the College of Arts & Sciences, the Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School of Business.

The Department of Epidemiology growing research program encompasses
diverse areas including molecular-genetic epidemiology, cancer, nutrition and chemoprevention, epigenetics, children’s health, environmental health, clinical epidemiology, global studies, microbiome research, and biomedical data science. We seek outstanding applicants with rigorous and cutting-edge research programs, with preference given to candidates whose area of expertise is in molecular epidemiology. The successful candidate is expected to have a strong record of scholarship, to develop an independent research program, and to participate in graduate-level teaching. Evidence of the ability to secure extramural funding is desirable. Applicants should have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree with relevant post-doctoral training. For MD applicants, a MPH or MS degree in epidemiology is preferred. Strong preference will be given to applicants with an established track record in interdisciplinary collaboration as well as those with innovative ideas and experience upon which a strong extramurally funded research program can be built.

A generous start-up package as well as access to state-of-the-art research facilities and excellent institutional resources are available through interdisciplinary centers such as the Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC; one of 49 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers), Dartmouth’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SYNERGY), the Children’s Environmental Health and Disease Prevention Research Center, Dartmouth’s supercomputing networks (e.g., Discovery) as well as the COBRE.

The successful candidate will be given opportunities for mentorship and teaching of both MS and PhD students in the multidisciplinary Program in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences, and may also have opportunities for small group teaching in the Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum. Depending on expertise, candidates may also join PhD graduate programs in Molecular and Cellular Biology and in Experimental & Molecular Medicine. Training grants are available to support trainees.
