Assistant Director Of Professional Development At University Of Virginia
The UVA Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs seeks an Assistant Director of Professional Development to contribute to the implementation and design of programs in support of the University’s graduate student and postdoctoral communities. Chief among these is PhD Plus, the University’s signature program for preparing graduate students and postdocs across all disciplines for long-term career success.
The Assistant Director will work with the Associate Director of Graduate Professional Development to provide individual career advising for graduate students and postdocs and collaborate in the development of new programs and opportunities in support of their professional development. Implementation of these programs will involve organizing and presenting at regular seminars, workshops, and other events designed to support career and professional development. Included in this work is the maintenance of a dynamic web and social media presence that will provide graduate students, postdocs, faculty mentors, and administrators with resources and information on these topics, and other recommended practices.
The Assistant Director will help to develop and maintain a communication plan for grad student and postdoc professional development that ensure timely and accurate delivery of information, news, and events related to career development via websites, email, list serves, and social media platforms. They will also assist in the development of new online professional and career development resources.
In addition to these duties, the Assistant Director will work to support the collection of data on experiences and career outcomes for graduate students and postdocs across the University, including those used for the assessment of career development programs. The Assistant Director will also help, as needed, in the coordination of policies and procedures impacting the career and professional development of graduate students and postdocs across the University.
A master’s degree is required by time of hire. A terminal degree with relevant experience in counseling, student advising, guiding and/or mentoring students at the graduate level is preferred. The successful candidate will also demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong desire to work with students, postdocs, faculty and administrators from a wide range of disciplines and schools. Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities, and excellent presentation skills are also required. The ability to utilize tools to collect, analyze, and report data, and to develop social media platforms to support the delivery of career development resources are also strongly desired.
The hiring range for this role is $50,000 to $65,000.
This position is a three-year appointment, and is a restricted position. Extension of the position may be possible, contingent upon business need, satisfactory performance, and the availability of funding.
