Apply now! ASPIRE Mock Interview Day, March 9th
The ASPIRE Program is hosting its first Mock Interview Day on March 9, 2020, from 2:00-5:00 pm. This event will provide biomedical PhD students and postdocs the opportunity to practice their interview skills with Nashville-area employers and alumni, and receive valuable feedback. Participants will have up to 4 mock interviews, each lasting about 20 minutes. The event will conclude with a networking reception.
Mock interviewers will represent a range of nonacademic and academic careers. Nonacademic fields represented include – but are not limited to – data science, medical science liaisons, clinical research, start-ups, medical communications, nonprofits, and industry. Academic careers represented include research/program administration (e.g. VICTR) and staff scientist roles, as well as postdoc positions and teaching- or research-focused faculty positions.
While filling out your application for this event, you will specify your career interests so we can try to align your mock interviews with alumni/employers from appropriate career fields. You will also need an updated version of your CV or Resume that is appropriate for the types of careers you’re interested in.
This is a limited-capacity event open to both PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in the biomedical sciences. Preference will be given to individuals who are currently interviewing for positions, and to those who will finish their training at VU within the next 18 months.
To help you prepare for mock interview day, the ASPIRE Program is offering three events on interviewing and resume writing, which are highlighted here. Students and postdocs who attend Interviewing 101 will be given priority in signing up for the Mock Interview day, so don’t miss out!

Mock Interview Day – Key Dates & Deadlines
January 31 – Applications due
February 10 – Applicants notified of their acceptance for mock interview day
February 17 – Revised CV/resumes due (if requested)
February 24 –Participants receive names/titles of individuals with whom they will be interviewing and example job descriptions for typical positions within the career field.
March 9 – MOCK INTERVIEW DAY (2:00-4:00 pm interviews, 4:00-5:00 pm reception)
