During the event, the presenter will 1) introduce Flagship Pioneering and its company creation process, 2) introduce and discuss the Summer Fellows Program, and 3) field questions regarding career transitions from academia to industry.

Krystian joined the Pioneering Medicines division of Flagship Pioneering as an associate after completing the firm’s 2021 Fellowship Program. In his role, Krystian works to identify new opportunities to advance platform technologies into therapeutic applications.
Krystian received his M.D. from Vanderbilt University, where he also completed his Ph.D. in Pharmacology through the Medical Scientist Training Program. Prior to this, he earned a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering and a B.A. in Chemistry from the North Carolina State University. Krystian’s undergraduate research was conducted in the laboratory of Professor Joseph Tracy, where he studied nanoscale materials and invented a method for large-scale batch synthesis of rod-shaped gold nanoparticles.
He earned his doctorate in Pharmacology in the laboratory of Professor C. David Weaver, where he discovered and studied small molecule modulators of ion channels implicated in neurological and cardiovascular disease. His postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Professor Brett Kroncke involved determining the functional and clinical implications of genetic variations in an ion channel critical to normal heart rhythmicity.
Krystian’s scientific work led to numerous publications, an awarded patent, and recognition through various awards, most notably from the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Foundation, the PhRMA Foundation, and the Canby Robinson Society. In addition to his academic pursuits, Krystian inspired the next generation of physician-scientists through leadership roles across multiple outreach programs within the Vanderbilt University MSTP.
