Please join Basic Sciences as we chat with three of our own outstanding scientists about the link between failure and success in science.The webinar will be moderated by Felysha Jenkins, Ph.D., Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Manager for Basic Sciences, with the following panelists:

  • Larry Marnett, Ph.D. – Dean of Basic Sciences and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research
  • Maureen Gannon, Ph.D. – Associate Dean for Faculty Development, Vanderbilt Institute for Infection, Immunology, and Inflammation
  • Ege Kavalali, Ph.D. – William Stokes Professor of Experimental Therapeutics and Chair of the Department of Pharmacology

What does success look like in science? What is the role of failure? The panelists will share their personal experiences and perspectives regarding failure and success in the academy. They will discuss how scientists learn by doing and that not every endeavor will have the expected outcome. In addition, the panelists will share strategies and techniques they have used to overcome setbacks and become the leading scientists that they are today.
