The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at San Francisco State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chemical Education. New faculty will begin work in August 2023. Position responsibilities: The Chemical Education position requires primarily undergraduate teaching in our core curriculum, including general chemistry, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active research program in chemical education that will enhance our department’s teaching mission, and ongoing committee and service assignments.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Ph.D. in broadly defined chemical sciences;
• Post-doctoral experience chemical education, or closely related fields;
• Record of working and communicating effectively with colleagues and students.

Preferred:

• A record of teaching in chemistry, a sub-discipline of chemistry, and/or suitable teaching experience to support chemical education research;
• Active record of research and scholarship related to specialty area and evidence of the potential for external funding of these activities;
• Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching and scholarship activities;
• Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-represented communities;
• Record of contributing to supportive and collaborative work environments.
