Scientific Writer, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
The Scientific Writer works with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital scientists, clinical investigators and administration to tell the story of research at St. Jude. The science writer works with researchers in a wide range of disciplines to communicate with scientific and mainstream media about St. Jude research, primarily research being published in scientific journals or presented at scientific meetings. The role requires an ability to manage multiple projects and develop appealing content on deadline for a variety of platforms (web, social media, print). The person in this position works collaboratively with a variety of departments and individuals at St. Jude and ALSAC to develop ideas and create content that communicate our science to different audiences.
The science writer plays a valuable role in enhancing the scientific reputation of St. Jude among the public, scientific community and others.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for writing media releases and related content, supporting institutional priorities and providing input on visual media projects, including video, illustrations, and graphics
- Responsibilities will include literature review, interviewing, writing, revising and editing content
- Works collaboratively with a variety of departments to develop ideas, research and create materials necessary to communicate information to identified audiences
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, communications, education or other healthcare field required
- Master’s degree preferred
Minimum Experience
- Five (5) years of progressive responsibility and experience in science; writing, communications, public relations, education or healthcare disciplines required
