Job Opportunity: Research Scientist – HIV Clinical Virology

Gilead is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Scientist to support the development of novel therapeutics aimed at treating, preventing and eradicating HIV. The successful candidate will function as a team member in HIV Clinical Virology, focused on the characterization of HIV medications and other therapeutic interventions through in vitro assays, translational models, and clinical studies. The scientist will carry out these responsibilities as a member of a cross-functional R&D group, working with both internal and external collaborators.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments to characterize the in vitro resistance profile of antiviral drugs, monitor the emergence and characterize drug resistance in patient samples, and assist in mechanism of action studies.
  • Organize experimental details and be proficient in both data management and the preparation of summary reports.
  • Set up vendor contracts and manage clinical sample shipment and testing.
  • Support clinical studies through virology assay development and implementation, data analysis, biostatistical analyses, and writing regulatory documents.
  • Communicate results and interpretation in group and team meetings.
  • Present findings at conferences and author scientific publications.
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific advances in relevant fields from literature and scientific meetings.
  • Effective team player who can think critically and creatively, work independently, and resolve problems to achieve results.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in virology, or relevant scientific discipline.
  • 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience in industrial or academic settings.
  • Experience with virology, molecular biology, sequencing, and cell culture techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Experience with clinical samples and knowledge of clinical trials preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work collaboratively in a high-paced, cross-functional team environment.
