Description

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is seeking a mission-oriented Scientific Program Manager with exceptional communication skills to join the expanding Scientific Affairs team. This position will work with global scientists and healthcare professionals to advance collaborative science on thoracic cancers. The Scientific Program Manager will support the new Multidisciplinary Clinical Science Committee and associated research projects, as well as the next edition of IASLC’s lung cancer staging project.

 

This full-time, exempt position reports to the Chief Science Officer and works a hybrid schedule out of our Denver office.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with IASLC membership to develop and implement scientific programs, research projects, and education to advance collaborative science in thoracic cancer.
  • Manage the entire life cycle of scientific projects. Includes co-development of projects with IASLC members and leadership, management of schedules and timelines to ensure that deadlines and deliverables are achieved, status reporting to appropriate leadership and stakeholders, results/deliverable dissemination, and program evaluation.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to committees and advisory groups (Multidisciplinary Care, Staging, etc.) providing project management and administrative support.
  • Communicate scientific and medical content to a variety of audiences including healthcare professionals, scientists, and people with lung cancer and their loved ones.
  • Support the preparation, writing, and review of scientific and medical content for grants, proposals, website, project materials, manuscripts, and publications.
  • Help develop, execute, and manage budgets, contracts, and data use agreements.
  • Proactively implement organizational and project management tools and software to increase work efficiency and standardize departmental processes and workflows.
  • Assist with the design and execution of new scientific research projects.
  • Provide exceptional member service and overall support to IASLC members, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Stay current on recent advances and emerging trends in thoracic oncology research and treatments.
  • Serve as a scientific content resource for association staff.
  • Attend and participate in scientific activities at IASLC-sponsored meetings and events, as assigned.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of IASLC and compassion for those living with a lung cancer diagnosis.
  • Graduate degree in a scientific, public health, or healthcare field; advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, or relevant education) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in a project management or healthcare administration role.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple scientific committees and/or projects, including all deliverables, including project timelines, schedules, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in using technology such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, virtual meeting platforms, and project management software with ability to learn additional software quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required.
  • Ability to travel in support of IASLC business needs.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scientific or medical background or knowledge in lung cancer or oncology.
  • Previous work experience in a nonprofit, scientific, medical, research or academic organization.
  • Project management experience or certification a plus.
  • International experience and multicultural sensitivity.
  • Multilingual fluency and/or literacy a plus.

  • Project management mindset, including having the ability to see the big picture, anticipate and plan for next steps, and manage communication with stakeholders to ensuring the timely completion of project-related tasks.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects in different stages of progress or development to ensure that milestones and deadlines are achieved.
  • Must be highly organized, have high attention to detail, and have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain productive business relationships that positively represent the IASLC and its programs.
  • Cooperative, positive attitude; ability to collaborate professionally and effectively with staff and members.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve in an independent, effective, and timely manner.
  • Ability to comprehend, prioritize, and manage complex scientific information.
  • Deep appreciation and respect for international cultural differences

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit/work at computer workstation for extended period.
  • Ability to lift/move 25-40 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, if necessary.

Compensation: $70,000-$85,000 annually, depending on education and experience.
