Responsibilities

The Research Scientist II will work within the Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology (BEOE) in the Center for Environmental Health.  The incumbent will support environmental, occupational, and biomonitoring projects to identify health risks and reduce exposure.  The incumbent will collaborate with a team of public health professionals in epidemiological investigations that monitor and evaluate the effects of exposure to toxic substances at home, at work, and in the community.  The incumbent will work on project design, data collection, data management activities, quality assurance and control, and perform data analyses.  The incumbent will also conduct literature reviews, summarizing results and developing manuscripts for the scientific community as well as developing reports for the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, or a related field and three years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a doctorate in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s or higher-level degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, or another closely related field. Experience in: environmental epidemiology; identification and surveillance of adverse health outcomes and environmental risk factors of disease and impacts on health and strong statistical and data management skills. Experience developing reports, reviewing health assessments and consultations, conducting epidemiology literature reviews, and summarizing scientific literature. Proficiency in the collection, management, and analysis of environmental and human health data. Advanced knowledge of SAS and/or R. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS).

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Travel, up to 25%, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
