Job Opportunity: Clinical Tenure-Track Investigator, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD

Posted by on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in Job Opportunities .

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the largest institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), conducts and supports a global program of research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases.

The Division of Intramural Research (DIR) within NIAID seeks an outstanding scientist to serve as a clinical tenure-track investigator on the main NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

DIR has been at the forefront of research on immunologic, allergic, and infectious diseases. Its purpose is to make scientific discoveries that promote the development of new vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics that improve human health. DIR research goals are to expand knowledge of normal immune system components and functions, define mechanisms responsible for abnormal immune function (immunodeficiency, allergy, and autoimmunity), understand the biology of infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites) and the host response to infection, and develop strategies to prevent and treat immunologic, allergic, and infectious diseases.

The selected candidate is expected to develop a clinical research program to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and/or allergic diseases. The successful candidate will implement and direct an independent clinical research program with an emphasis on clinical studies, which may also include translational and basic research. The incumbent may choose the research group/division within DIR with which they would prefer to be affiliated. Any clinical protocols developed should complement the research goals of the selected research group/division. In addition, the incumbent will be paired with a senior investigator who will serve as a clinical mentor. See more information about DIR laboratories.

Independent resources are committed to the position, including space, support personnel, and an annual budget for services, supplies, and salaries. Although external funding from non-NIH sources can be sought, it is not necessary. The successful candidate will also have access to the NIH Clinical Center.
