Job Opportunity: Research Associate, Baylor Esoteric + Molecular Laboratory, Chattanooga, TN

Baylor Esoteric + Molecular Laboratory is hiring a research associate to further develop COVID-19 testing strategies and uncover the impacts of respiratory pathogen co-infections. Since the start of the pandemic, the laboratory has been at the forefront of developing molecular diagnostics and COVID-19 testing. This postdoc would lead several new projects that are critical for our collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and work directly with various partners across our country.

Job description:

Validate pooled testing for SARS-CoV-2 surveillance
Work with industry partners to validate other testing approaches
Test saliva for co-infection of SARS-CoV-2, Streptococcus pneumoniae, influenza A, influenza B and/or other respiratory pathogens
Seek FDA Emergency Use Authorization for the above activities
Prepare detailed protocols, presentations, and manuscripts to share data with other scientists and public health agencies
Co-lead large interdisciplinary collaborations to advance SARS-CoV-2 surveillance
Assist with student research work and co-teach an introductory course in Molecular Methods

Job requirements:
PhD in virology, microbiology, molecular biology, molecular genetics or relevant field
BSL2+ training, experience working with clinical samples
Experience with pathogen (virus/bacteria) molecular diagnostics
Strong written and oral communication
Must be highly dependable, diligent, well-organized, and willing to work both independently and collaboratively
Dynamic pedagogical skills that are able to engage high school students in the pursuit of scientific research
