The Manager, Research Projects will be part of the Pediatric Research Alliance Operations Team responsible for managing the administrative and research activities of our Pediatric Research Centers. The chosen candidate will also work closely with the Pediatric Research Operations Director to serve as the day-to-day Cores Administrator for several pediatric scientific cores (http://www.pedsresearch.org/research/cores/).

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for managing complex research projects.
  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, assists in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines and procedures to collect required data.
  • Coordinates various aspects of the study.
  • Drafts and may edit text for studies.
  • Analyzes data, identifies data discrepancies and researches and identifies causes.
  • May perform statistical analysis of numerical data.
  • Actively contributes to the development of research protocols.
  • Determines how research methodologies or tools must be modified.
  • Ensures that study data and systems are maintained and accurately documented.
  • Analyzes data and develops reports to assess or monitor study performance and treatment results.
  • Coordinates and conducts special meetings and presentations.
  • Coordinates computer support for ancillary studies conducted at off-site locations.
  • Collaborates on reports and papers.
  • Assists in the preparation of tables and graphs for publication and presentation.
  • May design and develop databases related to specific programs at the request of supervisor and/or Principal Investigator.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, and Psychology or related discipline and two years of professional level research experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Candidates who have familiarity with the function, purpose and daily operations of scientific cores and an understanding of rate setting practices rooted in managerial accounting principles are highly preferred since this position is partially responsible for overseeing and managing the offerings and use of complex and technologically advanced research cores and must use an advanced knowledge of research techniques to plan, recommend, develop, and operationalize approaches to meet a variety of research-specific needs. The position is responsible for overseeing and assessing what research methodologies and tools are needed and will make recommendations regarding new implementations and/or modifications in the research technologies offered to meet user demand. The position is responsible for maintaining the user database (PPMS, Stratacore) and must actively monitor usage within the database to ensure usage and billing and accurately documented according to the NIH Uniform Guidelines and to recommend data driven decisions. This position will also use the database to analyze usage and billing data and will lead the development of detailed and summery reports to assess, monitor, and report status to core leadership and research leadership via special meetings and presentations.

To meet these special responsibilities, the candidate must have strong competencies and previous hands-on experience in the conduct of health science research and must also have If the candidate does not already possess a foundational understanding of the scientific use of all cores available on the Emory campus, s/he must have a proven track record in the ability to collect information and have the appropriate contextual scientific knowledge to recommend appropriate application of similar techniques and technologies. This includes, but is not limited to multiple ‘omics approaches including Genomics, Metabolomics, Proteomics, and Lipidomics, cell sorting, cell analysis, ultrasound, photoacoustic imaging, biostatistics, high pressure liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, animal models, and sample processing and storage protocols related to best practices in biorepositories. Moreover, the candidate must have a strong scientific background to allow appropriate capacity to communicate the proper use of these cores to health scientists.

Finally s/he must have a proven capacity to learn about different areas of pediatric research to connect researchers to the scientific approaches they will find most valuable. The areas of pediatric research include but are not limited to cancer, blood disorders, cystic fibrosis, asthma, infectious diseases, cardiac, neurology, autoimmune disorders.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
