Van Andel Institute will offer our next fully funded Postdoc Preview event Sept. 12–14, 2024. Postdoc Preview helps prospective postdocs determine if VAI will be a good fit for them. The deadline to apply is July 16, and the application is simple (CV and personal information only).

VAI is an independent biomedical research organization in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Our research encompasses five central themes: epigenetics, neurodegenerative science, metabolism and nutrition, cell biology, and structural biology. Postdoc Preview
Postdoc Preview is a competitive program that provides selected applicants the opportunity to visit VAI to learn about our postdoc training opportunities, meet one-on-one with our internationally recognized faculty and explore our extensive scientific resources.
- VAI will provide transportation, lodging and meals for selected applicants. We also are pleased to offer family care grants for those caring for children or other family members.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be current graduate students at U.S. institutions who anticipate beginning a postdoc within the next year. Individuals who identify as members of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
- The 2024 Fall event will be held Sept. 12–24, 2024. The deadline to apply is July 16, 2024.

Cancer Epigenetics Training Program
VAI’s Cancer Epigenetics Training Program offers cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research training in structural and functional aspects of epigenetics, complemented by state-of-the-art Core Technologies and Services, unique professional development activities, and integration with established translational research programs and partnerships led by VAI investigators. The program is supported by a National Cancer Institute T32 training grant (no. T32CA251066).
- Prepares postdocs to become independent research leaders in the field of cancer epigenetics.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be near completion of a Ph.D., M.D. or other appropriate terminal degree. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Individuals who identify as members of underrepresented racial and ethnic groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Inspire Fellowship
The Inspire Fellowship supports exceptional postdoctoral fellows by reducing barriers, fostering community, and providing the resources and personalized mentorship needed for an outstanding training experience.
- Provides up to three years of salary support. VAI postdoc salaries start at $70,000.
- Inspire Fellows form a cohort that meets for monthly professional development events.
- Eligibility: Applicants must be within 12 months of completing a Ph.D., M.D. or other appropriate terminal degree. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who identify as members of an underrepresented racial or ethnic group as defined by NIH.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
