The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Our mission is to lead the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia– by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
The Intern, Scientific Programs would work on coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART). The Intern would liaise with both internal Alzheimer’s Association staff and external ISTAART members to meet the needs of the Society’s daily operational activities.
ISTAART is a diverse global network of scientists, clinicians and dementia professionals. Members of this professional organization share common goals: the pursuit of knowledge, collaboration and breakthroughs to advance the research and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. ISTAART members represent over 120 countries, making this a dynamic global community that collaborates across many areas of Alzheimer’s and dementia research. Members have the opportunity to connect with colleagues worldwide, explore avenues for networking and mentorship, and stay on the leading edge of scientific advancements. The Intern’s responsibilities include:
● Assisting with ISTAART’s career development programs, which include ISTAART Ascent and the ISTAART Ambassador Programs
● Coordinate logistics for ISTAART’s career development programs, maintaining reports and tracking, organizing schedules and facilitating virtual meetings.
● Preparation of communications and announcements via emails, newsletters, the ISTAART website, and social media.
● Responding to queries via email or phone.

● Excellent analysis of data
● Excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
● Self-starter and results-oriented with ability to meet goals
● Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Internship Details:
- • Internship is conducted virtually, with the opportunity to visit the foundation and meet the team using a paid ASPIRE Travel award
- • Internship is paid– Winter 2024 / Spring 2025 (8-10 hours per week for 10 weeks) with the possibility to extend pending review
- • Position reports to: Director, Scientific Programs

ASPIRE Internship Eligibility requirements
● Applicants must be a current Vanderbilt University PhD student or a current postdoctoral fellow.
● All PhD students must have completed all coursework for their degree prior to the start of the internship.
● Biomedical PhD students must also have passed their qualifying exams before the application deadline.
● Students and postdocs may not participate in more than one internship at a time. More than one application may be submitted at a single time, but only one position can be accepted.
● If you are not in a department supported by the BRET office, we will also require that you complete a form guaranteeing PI approval to participate in this program. Please contact Ashley Brady at ashley.brady@vanderbilt.edu for more information.
