The Program in Health Services Research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the academic core of the 5th largest non-profit healthcare system in the United States, is seeking an open-rank tenure-track faculty member to join our team of faculty in the Division of Public Health Sciences 

Anchored by our aim to improve healthcare access, quality, and value, we are searching for an ideal candidate with the following qualifications: 

  • A Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in health economics, health services research, health policy or related fields.   
  • Track record of health service research, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and securing extramural funding that is commensurate with rank. 
  • Quantitative skills with experience in application of econometric/statistical models and large claims and administrative data. 
  • Proven ability to thrive in a diverse and inclusive academic medical setting. 

Research Excellence: Conduct cutting-edge research in health economics, health services research, health policy, or related fields. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and actively seek extramural funding opportunities to advance the field. 

Data Utilization: Leverage access to large healthcare claims and administrative data to generate insights into healthcare interventions, policy, and cost-effectiveness. Apply quantitative skills and utilize econometric/statistical models to analyze and interpret complex healthcare data. 

Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of faculty within the Division of Public Health Sciences and across Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Embrace a culture of interdisciplinary collaboration to address complex healthcare challenges. 

 Teaching and Mentoring: Share your expertise and knowledge with learners and early-career researchers. Provide mentorship and guidance to foster the development of future healthcare researchers. 

 Extramural Funding: Seek and secure extramural funding to support research projects, ensuring resources are commensurate with your rank and research goals. 

 Health Equity Focus: Align research efforts with the aim of improving healthcare access, quality, and value. Champion health equity initiatives and contribute to transformative strategies that benefit diverse patient populations.

The Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy is one of four departments in the Division of Public Health Sciences. Comprising a dedicated team of 25 faculty and 83 staff members, our department aims to improve the human condition through the application of social sciences and public policy research to health and health care. The Division of Public Health Sciences includes 75 faculty and 240 staff and has a diverse, extensive, and highly successful research portfolio. In 2022, we proudly secured $37.4 million in extramural funding, with $15.8 million in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy. While the current Program faculty are based within the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy, the top candidate can be a member of any of the four departments within the Division.   

Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) serves as the academic core of Advocate Health and is among the top 50 research institutions in the United States.
