The Vanderbilt University Medical Center division of Clinical Pharmacology seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to join funded research program examining small RNAs as biomarkers of and mediators of inflammatory autoimmune disease and cardiovascular disease. Responsibilities may include small RNA sequencing, microarrays, qPCR, cell-based assay development and optimization, small animal model studies, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.

When it comes to careers, the spread of research into your time will hold you back. From graduate school, you will gain a degree, technical skills, broader research skills and subject-matter expertise. But if you allow research to take over, you will be missing these important aspects: working with people outside your field, seeing what different careers actually look like, having experiences other than your research, developing key transferable skills, building a network of people who can refer you to jobs -- as well as maintaining and enhancing physical health, mental health (read the research if you haven’t), a social life and an understanding of who you are in the world.

Anyone interested in gaining teaching experience should consider applying to serve as a FOCUS co-Leader. FOCUS sessions are small group literature discussions for first year graduate students. Two Co-Leaders will be paired with a faculty member and mentored through the process to teach small group discussion sections. The time commitment is every Monday from 11-12 and Tuesdays from 9-11.

The Vanderbilt Training Program in the Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer (Vanderbilt MAGEC) is currently accepting applications for postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowship is an individualized didactic training program, tailored to complement the trainee’s background, and includes both core and elective coursework, a multi-disciplinary mentoring team, rotations in the Vanderbilt Molecular Epidemiology Lab and Survey Research Shared Resource, and the conduct of a research project. The fellowship culminates in the submission of a grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health.
